More new members for AIM-PROGRESS

Two more new members have joined AIM-PROGRESS: SABMiller (global brewing company) and SC Johnson (global household cleaning and maintenance products). This brings the current membership of AIM-PROGRESS to 30 companies. Further companies are considering joining within the next months.

AIM-PROGRESS welcomes new member

AIM-PROGRESS is pleased to announce that The Clorox Company has decided to join our initiative. Clorox provides cleaning products for home and laundry, thereby strengthening the representation of non-food members in AIM-PROGRESS. We are happy to welcome Chris Merhige and his colleague Scott Wilkerson at our future meetings.

AIM-PROGRESS releases internal member guidance on business integrity

The Business Integrity work stream has published an “off-the-shelf” best practice guidance document on Business Ethics and Integrity that AIM-PROGRESS members can use as inspiration for their supplier codes.  This document is meant purely as guidance on best practice, and it is for members to determine how they wish to use/incorporate it into their supplier codes. The guidance is aligned with the UN Global Compact Principles, the UK Bribery Act, as well as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). AIM-PROGRESS worked with i2a, a consultancy specialising in reducing reputational and operational risk, to deliver this project. Mutual Recognition gains momentum

"An audit for one is an audit for all" - this is one of the main tenets of AIM-PROGRESS and we are trying to implement this through our Mutual Recognition initiative. 22 members have now signed up to our joint principles, the latest newcomer being Hershey's. The recent round of establishing an audited suppliers list for sharing between participating companies was supported by 16 members and yielded a list of close to 7000 records. Members are now using this list to identify where audits have already been done, so that they can request suppliers to make these available, if they wish to, in order to avoid additional audits. This exercise is, of course, undertaken in strict compliance with anti-trust law. No information is shared which points to the customer-supplier relationship.  Our aim is to cover 35% of participating members' audit needs through this list. AIM-PROGRESS 2011 Survey on Responsible Sourcing

AIM-PROGRESS have conducted their first internal responsible sourcing benchmark survey to help members understand how peer companies position responsible sourcing and to share best practices.


Questions cover company programme and structure for responsible sourcing, assessments and audit findings (generic), training and capacity building, impact evaluation, and external engagement. Members can use the results of the survey to identify improvement opportunities and set targets. AIM-PROGRESS will conduct the survey again in one year to identify trends and measure progress.


The encouraging results of the survey demonstrate that AIM-PROGRESS members have a strong, long-term commitment to responsible sourcing. Members predict that the scope of their programmes will increase between 2011 and 2012; risk analysis is used to determine the focus of their programmes. Responsible sourcing is being taken seriously by member companies with the person accountable for the programme being at least director level, and companies holding themselves to the same standards as they request of their suppliers. This is a key criterion for AIM-PROGRESS membership.


AIM-PROGRESS members cover the four pillars of responsible sourcing in their standards (Labour & human rights, health & safety, environment, business integrity) and are using common evaluation methods to reduce assessment duplication in the supply chain - one of AIM-PROGRESS' main objectives. To add legitimacy to the programmes most companies are using indpendent third parties to audit suppliers.
