Social sustainability - fighting forced labour

The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF)  announced an ambitious, new resolution to fight forced labour issues throughout global supply chains, launching a rallying call to the industry. With the complexity of global supply chains, CGF recognises that eradication of forced labour remains a key challenge. Driving this global collaboration would help address forced labour as one of the most pressing social issues of our time.

Successfully fighting forced labour requires collective corporate actions which go beyond traditional compliance approaches. The work achieved by multiple efforts to support increased harmonisation of supply chain practices will be instrumental in driving this necessary change.

AIM-PROGRESS Responsible Sourcing Supplier Event in Istanbul, Turkey

On 17 November 2015, Coca-Cola, Ferrero and Orkla hosted an AIM-PROGRESS Responsible Sourcing supplier workshop in Turkey to promote responsible sourcing standards in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) supply chains.

40+ suppliers came together for interactive sessions on freedom of association and overtime management issues, as well as migrant and contract labour management, which are of particular interest in Turkey. The very topical subject of conditions of seasonal employment in Turkey was highlighted through a photography project which provided first-hand visual insight.

Feedback from the meeting was very positive. Participants were happy to attend and the workshop sessions were very interactive. The sessions on regulation and the AIM-PROGRESS hosts' case studies were highlighted as what attendees enjoyed most of the day.

The Turkey event concludes the 2015 supplier event series which were hosted in Mexico, Shanghai and North America (webinar).

SAI Platform Sustainable Sourcing Master Class 25-26 November

The SAI Platform/IMD Masterclass on Sustainable Sourcing is taking place on25 and 26 November 2015 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This interactive training and learning opportunity helps participants develop realistic and practicable implementation approaches to meet companies’ sustainable sourcing targets for agricultural raw materials.

The class features real-life cases presented by a variety of speakers from different organizations and is based on the framework and steps of the “Practitioner’s Guide to Sustainable Sourcing of Agricultural Raw Materials”, developed by SAI Platform together with IMD, ITC, and IDH, with support from the Sustainable Food Lab, Business for Social Responsibility and SEDEX.

It represents a great way to learn almost everything about developing a business case for sustainable sourcing strategies, their effective implementation, stakeholder engagement processes, and tools available to help you meet sustainable sourcing targets, as well as ways to overcome challenges.

The Master Class is open to everyone interested in sustainable sourcing.  As the number of seats is limited, we will accept participants on a first come first serve basis.
