Welcome to Green Mountain Coffee

Marine sector develops supplier code of conduct in line with Ruggie

IMPA – the International Marine Purchasing Association – has recently launched IMPA ACT – a complete responsible supply chain management system for the marine shipping sector, fully aligned to Ruggie.


Central to their program is the Supplier Code of Conduct (SCoC) which IMPA intends and hopes will become the marine industry standard and covers suppliers’ impacts on human rights, including core labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption. It is intended to represent best practice and is the first of its kind to be fully aligned to the UN Guiding Principles launched in 2011 (Ruggie).


IMPA Act members are signing up to the code and will start a dialogue with their suppliers on how to implement the code. Ultimately, the system will be underpinned by a data base to share supplier CSR/audit data, similar to Sedex, Ecovadis, BSCI and other data sharing platforms.


The code is held fairly generic so it could be used by other sectors as a reference point. The UN Guiding Principles cannot simply be treated as an “add-on” to existing codes but may actually require companies to review and adapt their codes.

From Audit to Innovation - new report by Shift and GSCP

Shift have released a joint report with the GSCP on how companies are overcoming the shortfalls of the auditing approach with regard to actual CSR improvements in the supply chain.


There is a growing recognition of the limitations of the conventional social compliance audit approach in remediating unacceptable social and labour conditions in supply chains. There is apparently little evidence that auditing alone leads to sustained improvements, leading to growing frustration among global brands and retailers with the limitations of the traditional audit paradigm. The report highlights alternative and supplementary approaches to addressing social performance issues in supply chains, approaches which seek to recast relationships with suppliers, from ‘policemen’ to ‘partners’. A number of case studies are being featured designed to provide inspiration for possible models of improving supply chain social conditions.

AIM-PROGRESS is pleased to announce that Mead Johnson Nutrition has joined the initiative. The company is a US-based global provider of infant and child nutrition brands such as Enfamil, Nutramigen or Lactum. AIM-PROGRESS now comprises 36 corporate members from the branded goods industry and their supplier base.

SAI Platform launches Water Stewardship report

SAI Platform, the global initiative helping food and drink companies to achieve sustainable agriculture practices, has created a new Water Stewardship report for food and drink companies and their agricultural supply chains. The report has been developed by SAI Platform's Water and Agriculture Working Group to help companies ensure sustainable water management is included in their supply chain and supplying farms.
