The Fair Hiring Initiative is a multi-stakeholder initiative that is implemented in close collaboration with governments, representative employers’ and workers’ organizations, the private sector and other key partners. It is based on a four-pronged approach, which puts social dialogue at the centre.
The goals are to:
General:
Enhance global knowledge on national and international recruitment practices
Improve laws, policies and enforcement mechanisms to promote fair recruitment practices
Promote fair business practices
Empower and protect workers.
More specific:
Undertake studies related to recruitment along migration corridors and in labour intensive sectors including good practices of law, policies and enforcement mechanisms, economic determinants of informal/ formal recruitment and measurement of recruitment costs, alternative options to private employment agencies
Launch promotional campaigns
Support capacity building of legislators and ensure adequate legislations are in place
Develop an easy-to-use online portal to help stakeholders access international standards, practical tools, research and good practices
Support and test models that undertake human rights due diligence in a number of pilot countries and sectors
Provide assistance to trade unions and their affiliated organizations to support the organization of migrant workers and the protection of their rights
Support the collaboration of trade unions and civil society actors
