Policy Issues: Business and Human Rights

One important learning topic for CSR and procurement professionals represented in AIM-PROGRESS is the “Ruggie framework”, i.e. the new UN guiding principles for business and human rights.

CSR is now no longer only about minimising negative environmental and social impacts, it is about actively contributing, as a business, to sustainable development and the application of basic human rights. The Business Leader Initiative on Human Rights (BLIHR) have issued “essential steps” to integrate human rights into day-to-day business operations (available from AIM Secretariat on request). The European Union has just adopted a communication on how this UN framework will be implemented for Europe (also available from AIM Secretariat on request).
