Engaging suppliers to achieve environmental commitments

The environment is one of the four pillars of responsible sourcing. Most AIM-PROGRESS members have strong sustainability programs in place, including ambitious commitments to reduce environmental impacts and source sustainable commodities. However, there often remains a gap between the environmental agenda of a company and the way it engages with suppliers on these topics.

The role of the environmental work stream of AIM-PROGRESS, led by Joe Maguire of Diageo, is focusing on contributing to the environmental aspects of mutual recognition of audits, providing content to supplier capability building events and identifying hotspots where joint action would be helpful.

In particular on deforestation and climate change, AIM-PROGRESS would like to support companies in implementing the Consumer Goods Forum’s commitments. One of the central tools to measure carbon, water and deforestation is the CDP platform which is already widely used by many AIM-PROGRESS members. WWF, who are part of the AIM-PROGRESS Advisory Board, will be contributing their expertise to our efforts.
