India stands as both a strategic production hub and a rapidly growing consumer market for the global FMCG sector. Recognising its central role in global supply chains, as well the increasing attention it is given by major international brands, Embode and AIM Progress are holding a series of Spotlight Learning Events on India to deepen members’ understanding of key sourcing countries and their operating environments.
This first session focuses on providing essential insights into its legal and governance frameworks. Without a sound grasp of India’s legal context, businesses risk missing opportunities for responsible and sustainable engagement. As such, this session will equip AIM-Progress members and their suppliers with a foundational understanding of the legal context in which Indian businesses operate.
This session is open to AIM-Progress members and their India-based suppliers.
This panel session will feature two legal experts with extensive experience;
● Ms Gayatri Singh, Senior Advocate at the Bombay High Court
● Ms Bhoomika Choudhray, Independent Consultant on Business and Human Rights
Concretely the learning event will cover
● Foundations of India’s Legal System – Overarching legal structure and Federal vs State level law-making
● Labour Governance – Overview of labour and employment law and Landmark judgements in labour case law
● Implications for Multinationals – Corporate accountability in the law and Intersection of corporate accountability and civil liberties
