Human Rights in Recycling Supply Chains

Join our webinar on human rights in recycling supply chains, organised by AIM-Progress, the Consumer Goods Forum and the Circulate Initiative.

Businesses are increasingly required to abide by industry regulations, such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), report on social and environmental impacts and reputational risks in their supply chains, and address due diligence and disclosure requirements (following the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).  In post-consumer recycled material supply chains, companies also have a mandate to meet the demand for recycled content whilst ensuring human rights issues in their supply chains are addressed.

Contributing to nearly 60% of global recycling efforts, an estimated 20 million informal waste sector workers and waste pickers play a critical role in waste collection. Despite this, their contributions are overlooked, and they are vulnerable to human rights issues, including inadequate pay, child labour, and health risks.

In this context, and developed through the lens of waste workers, The Circulate Initiative released the Harmonized Responsible Sourcing Framework for Recycled Plastics (the Harmonized Framework) for companies to evaluate and address human rights conditions in the recycled plastics supply chain, and to meet the growing demands of regulators around supply chain environmental and social issues.

This webinar will showcase best practices for implementing responsible sourcing in recycling supply chains. It will feature insights from senior industry experts on human rights issues, the evolving reporting and regulatory landscape, and the need for a comprehensive responsible sourcing framework. The session will also include real-world examples from businesses and investors advancing their responsible sourcing practices. Join us to learn how to meet the growing demands of regulators and address human rights issues in your supply chain
