Launch of Meaningful Stakeholder Engagement Guidance

18 May 2026

We are pleased to launch a practical guidance resource on Meaningful Stakeholder Engagement in agriculture and food manufacturing together with Oxfam, amfori – Trade with Purpose, Ethical Trading Initiative, Etisk Handel Sverige – Ethical Trade Sweden, Fair Labor Association and Food Network for Ethical Trade. Explore the guidance here.

  • Rationale: MSE is essential for responsible supply chains and embedding MSE improves risk management, strengthens trust and delivers better outcomes for rightsholders and companies alike. It helps companies identify risks early, prevent conflict and build more resilient supply chains. This guidance responds directly to the growing importance of MSE under EU legislation. The CSRD and CS3D both require companies to demonstrate structured, ongoing engagement with affected stakeholders as part of due diligence, risk management and reporting obligations.
  • Background: Meaningful stakeholder engagement (MSE) is the process of engaging stakeholders in a genuine, safe, respectful, and ongoing dialogue to ensure their perspectives meaningfully shape company decisions and improve human rights and environmental outcomes
  • Launch webinar: In May, we ran two webinars to discuss the guidance including case studies from two companies on how they have built MSE into their due diligence approaches, Pilgrims Europe and Bolton Foods. You can listen back to those webinars here and here.

We hope you will find these two new deliverables practical and user-friendly. Don’t hesitate to let us know what you think.
