Members of AIM-Progress and The Consumer Goods Forum Human Rights Coalition, which includes major fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies, partnered with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) and Proforest to develop and launch the “Converged Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) Assessment Tool” in December 2024.
The open-source tool is designed to help businesses identify, prevent, and address potential risks to human rights and the environment across their business operations and supply chains. It is intended to support a wide range of industries, helping all types of businesses assess and improve HREDD practices by standardising content, requirements, and language; promoting a unified approach to HREDD maturity assessments across the FMCG sector and beyond.
We are pleased to announce that we have made a few “technical tweaks” to the tool due to popular demand.
Many companies have started to deploy the tool – for themselves and with key suppliers – and have suggested a number of improvement areas for better functionality. We have taken these on board and are releasing an updated version, prior to a more in-depth review by the end of the year.
The changes do not affect the content of the tool but are mostly focused on the evaluation results, allowing companies to see:
- overall statistics,
- breakdown by the part of the business,
- and breakdown by HREDD step.
There are additional enhancements to support supplier engagement in the form of graphics showing maturity levels and percentage of the assessed requirements met.
We encourage the business community to use this tool if you are assessing HREDD management systems. A converged approach is so much better than fragmented and duplicative asks to suppliers
